Waste Miles TO Style (Part 1?)

November 23, 2008 at 1:50 am Leave a comment

Sunny muses about a diagram on how far organic waste travels in Toronto to a big processing facility and how that compares to composting that locally the way Green Thumbs, Growing Kids does.

From Echo of a Candle Flame and Ffenyx Rising.

Now think of how it would look if an urban farm like FoodCycles entered the picture? FoodCycles aims to process up to 109 tonnes of organic waste per year and sequester up to 80 tonnes of carbon into the soil while preventing another 150 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere by processing waste locally.

Of course we’ll not only be processing waste we’ll also be growing vegetables (using the nutrient rich, clean compost of ours), then fish (tilapia, who’ll be enjoying the vegetables) and bees in the very near future.

Anyways, check out the full article here: http://ffenyx.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/lams-life-waste-miles-to-style-part-1/

Please feel free to get in touch if you want to help once the show gets rolling!
